Hi, I’m Stana – Your Local Interior Designer in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

Passionate about creating meaningful spaces, inspired by family life, culture, colour psychology, and sustainable living

Who am I?

I’m Stana, the founder of Stanislava Colour & Design. I live in Aberdeen with my husband, two children and our Labrador, Jake. I’m qualified in interior design, colour psychology, child psychology, and travel and tourism. I combine these qualifications and my passion for people and homes to help families create spaces that are practical, calming, and truly reflect who they are.

What inspires my design style?

My style is influenced by the places I’ve lived - London, Canada, the USA, and especially Denmark, where I was drawn to the warmth and balance of hygge design. I also carry my home country’s culture with me wherever I go, and it naturally finds its way into my work. Living in Scotland has deepened my appreciation for local craftsmanship and the creative community here. I enjoy supporting Scottish artists and makers, blending local touches with international influences to create spaces that feel both personal and meaningful.

How did I get into interior design?

Growing up, my mum was always making changes around the house. That’s how I first learned hands-on skills like plastering, basic electrics, joinery, and plumbing. I didn’t realise it at the time, but those early experiences shaped how I see and work with spaces. Later, while renovating our own homes and raising a family, I saw just how powerful design can be and how it makes everyday life easier, calmer, and more enjoyable. That’s when I knew I wanted to turn this passion into something more and help others feel that same difference in their own homes.

What keeps me motivated?

I’m motivated by the difference a well-designed home can make in everyday life. When a space supports how a family lives - making mornings easier, evenings calmer, and time together more enjoyable - that’s where the real impact is. I love helping families feel more connected to their homes, gain back precious time, and enjoy a space that feels good to be in.

Why are sustainability and community important to me?

Sustainability is part of how I live and design. As a mum, I care about the future we’re creating and the environment my children grow up in. I choose eco-friendly materials with fewer chemicals to support a healthier home and better indoor air quality. I also believe in supporting local makers and suppliers, reducing environmental impact and celebrating the creativity within our communities. It’s about designing homes that are safer, more thoughtful, and built to last.

How do I design children’s spaces?

I combine child psychology with colour psychology to create spaces that support a child’s growth, development, and emotional connection to their environment. Children often use one room for many things - sleeping, playing, learning, and relaxing - so it’s important to design clear zones that meet each of those needs. I focus on creating a balanced space that feels safe, fun, and flexible as they grow.

Do I offer a pet-friendly design?

Yes! I understand that pets are part of the family, so I design with them in mind too. Pet-friendly design means choosing durable materials, washable fabrics, and layouts that work for both people and pets. From cosy corners for your dog to flooring that’s easy to clean, I help create a home that’s practical, comfortable, and safe for everyone - including the furry ones.

What’s life like outside of design?

Life is full and always on the move. With two children and their busy schedules, I’m often juggling school runs, activities, and playing family chauffeur. In between, I enjoy long walks with our dog Jake, spending time with friends and family, and finding small moments of calm.

Travelling is something I truly value, especially the chance to connect with local people and experience different cultures. When time allows, I enjoy a trip to the theatre, staying active, and giving back through volunteering in the community. These moments bring balance, joy, and keep me grounded.
